Entering Swimming Competitions

Types of Competition

Open Meets	You enter these meets as a member of Poole Swimming Club and will need to submit times for your events. Use the club general Open Meet entry sheet below which MUST be submitted via the club Open Meet Coordinator. Entering these competitions will improve your times and there are often prizes offered for winners. Competitions usually take place on a Sunday and will not clash with club Galas.
"B" Open Meets	As above but have a Cut-Off time to encourage slower swimmers to compete. Entries as for Open Meets.
Designated/Licensed Meets	An Open Meet which has defined event swim times which gain entry to National Competitions and Championships. Entries as for Open Meets.
Club Championships	Every swimming member is eligible and encouraged to enter and should use the entry form published on the Gala's page. Every event is covered in our club championships and this is your opportunity to get accurate times for the forthcoming season.
Star Galas	for swimmers in the club's Star Groups. Entry forms are published a few weeks before the date of the gala.
Masters	The competitor should obtain the meet entry form from the organiser or by download below and enter the meet directly. It is also a good idea to inform the person who may be organising relay teams for this gala that you have entered and are/are not available for relay swims. The relay coordinator varies and you will need to enquire who is doing it for any particular meet.
Dorset Championships	County Championships, these MUST be entered via club who submit a composite entry in electronic form.
Various	Various running and Biathlon/Biathle events of interest to club members.
What are BAGCATS?	BAGCATS (British Age Group CATegories) is a system used to calculate an 'overall' age-group winner of a swimming meet, worked out using the best swim in a number of different categories. The best swim is defined as the swim with the highest points score (which you will see on result sheets, on the right hand side, after the time). The higher the number of points, the better the swim. This is done for girls aged 9-13 and boys aged 9-14. The categories vary with the swimmer's age, and are detailed in full on the British Swimming Website, details at the end. Why do I need to know? The youngest swimmers only need 50m, 200m and 100 & 200 IM events to get a full Bagcats score, so are not usually allowed to enter county championships on events other than these. Important-
1.if you were a medallist placed 1st,2nd or 3rd at the County Championships you are unable to enter that event, please cross out on your invitation.
2.Girls 10yrs and boys 10/11yrs may only enter 100m events if entering and accepted for the 200m event in the same stroke (excludes 100/200IM). If you have were a County medalist in a 200m event or have a SWQT in a 200m event you may not enter for the 100m event in that stroke.

To enter: print your ‘Invitation to Enter’ form , follow the instructions printed on it, and print the Health Form (page 14 of information document). If you entered the Dorset championships you do not need to do this again. Hand completed forms together with a cheque made out to P.S.C (£5.00 for each event) to Sue Newbon or any swimming coach.
